LETTERS FROM PRISON
December 03, 2008 @ 2:37 AM - Brian
A few times a month, the magazine gets actual hand written letters from people in prison. Usually, it’s just people that rode, fell in with a bad crowd and ended up in jail because of it. Most of the time, drug-related. And the letters usually just say something along the lines of, “Hey, thanks for making the magazine. It helps me to stay connected with BMX in here.” I try to respond to all of the letters we get, including a guy from Nevada named Scott Brown, who wrote in a few months back. I don’t even remember what I wrote. I think I might’ve been a dumbass and tried to send him stickers too, but the prison wouldn’t let him accept them. Anyways, Scott recently replied thanking me for writing him back and asked me for a small favor, which is the least I could do.
Scott Brown needs pen pals. Here’s what he had to say: “If you have or know anybody that has time for a pen pal, shoot them my way, especially if it’s a girl. Hey, prisoners need love to.”
So here’s what I’m going to do. I want everyone reading this to take one piece of scrap paper and write a one page story of any kind for Scott. You can do whatever you want. Then put that story in an envelope, throw a stamp on it and send it Scott’s way:
Scott Brown ID # 1011022
High Desert State Prison
Indian Springs, NV 89070
I don’t know Scott. Hell, I don’t even know what he did to end up in prison. But he’s a BMXer at heart, and taking ten minutes out of your day to simply say hi to someone that could really use the outside contact isn’t that much to ask. So say hi to Scottie ‘Blue Eyes’ Brown for me when you get a chance.
Thanks.
