  • BOMB DOWN BROADWAY RECAP

  • posted 1 year, 9 months ago
  • Just to catch up, the Skavenger/Zoo York Bomb down Broadway went down without a hitch yesterday, and it was just as insane as everyone had imagined. If you can picture about 100 people on BMX bikes, starting from Union Square and essentially bombing down Broadway to the Brooklyn Banks through traffic, stop lights and anything that might’ve gotten in the way, then you’re coming close.

Right from the start, there was a severe pile up, and I don’t think a lot of people recovered from that, but about 50 of us did make it to the Banks, with the first 20 advancing into the second part of the race, which went from the Banks, over the Williamsburg Bridge, to Edwin’s new shop Post. I forget who won, the guy had a mustache though. And Darryl Nau placed second, winning a cool $1,000 in dollar bills. Of course, the after-party/BBQ was broken up pretty fast by the Williamsburg beat of the NYPD.

When all was said and done, we all went home tired, still wheezing and stoked. It was a race like none other I ever experienced. Safe to say, it’ll never be replicated. Thanks to Vinnie Sammon, Skavenger, Zoo York and the streets of NYC for one heck of a time.

Edit: I forgot to mention that Darryl Nau rode the comp with a note in his pocket that read, “My name is Darry Nau,” listing emergency contact info in case there was an accident. Always one step ahead that dude…

I only took two bad point and shoot shots at Union before the race...
