So we made it through qualifying, and it was pure awesome. I don’t know if anyone’s taken the time to really take in ESPN’s BMX Street comps, but they’re pretty damn entertaining to watch. I won’t get into the details (cause there’s a hell of a lot) but the top 5 guys (1. Nathan Williams, 2. Dakota Roche, 3. Brad Simms, 4, Christian Balmaceda, 5. Brian Kachinsky) pulled out all the stops and went big.
After qualifying, we all went back to the hotel and partook in a painting party at Mat Hoffman’s room. (Mat was collecting paintings to be auctioned off at his daughter’s school.) And then today happened, and stuff got really, really weird.
We took a guided tour, stopping first at the Basilica of Guadalupe, then headed out of town to these pyramid city known as Teotihuacan. No one knows who built it, but the pyramids are huge. And since the air is thin, climbing to the top is a task. But we all made it up to the top of the summit of the Pyramid of the Sun, overlooking the Avenue of the Dead and simultaneously wondering how the heck BMX had gotten us there in the first place. There were other stops as well, including a place that showed us how tequila was made, and now I’m back at the venue. Comp is tomorrow. More soon. Check the photos…
