  • PETER ADAM & THE EMERALD VIDEO

  • posted 1 year, 1 month ago
  • Ireland’s most infamous BMXer and long time DIG co-conspirator Peter Adam has just released his full length Irish dvd aptly titled “The Emerald Video’. We caught up with him recently (in between his post rounds and exotic foreign holidays) to get the lowdown on what you can expect.

So Pete, what exactly is the Emerald video?
It’s a BMX video filmed on the mean streets of Ireland with a sprinkling of overseas footage in some of the sections.

    Who’s in it?
There’s full sections from Me (Peter Adam), Andrew Ryder, Derek Johnson, John Wells, John McVea and Matt Gillispie have a split section as do Michael/Chris Sharpe and Luke Godson.  It also has a friends section with Donnacha Carroll, Alexander Glen, Jason Phelan and load of other riders from over here.

How long did it take to make?
It’s taken two years! Although I was in Hawaii for three months last winter and the last two “summers” have been the wettest ones since records began! Although when I put the “I’m making a video” ball in motion two years ago I wasn’t going to let a wee bit of rain stop us!

Why’s it called “The Emerald Video?”
Ireland is widely known as “The Emerald Isle” and that’s thanks to the gulf stream and all that rain.

I’m not forking out for a video full of “Dad Cam” footage, what experience do you have of filming?
Well (clear throat noise) I got my first camera in 1996 and haven’t set one down since, I’ve filmed for Props, 411 BMX, Soul, Seventies, Federal, United and a few web videos that you can check out over at Mpora.

I haven’t heard too much about this video till now, why would I want to watch it?
I didn’t want to make ten trailers and blow the whole thing up, I wanted it to sneak up on you!  This is the best Irish video ever! (and the only one) Ireland rarely gets any exposure and we’ve got tons of spots, get it, stick it in your dvd player and enjoy some fresh footy!

What sort of music did you use?
Although the trailer has a bit of ‘twiddely dee’ in it, sorry to disappoint but the actual video hasn’t… I tried to pick a song for each riders style of riding, a few of the sections took a couple of attempts at editing. Sometimes the song you have in mind doesn’t actually work when you put it to the riding, some of the artists include, The Undertones, Rory Gallagher, Devo, Tears for fears, Neil Young… and there’s even an Ice Tea song for the bonus section!  Also in the bonus section is another Irish video I made over ten years ago!

How much is it and how do I buy it?
UK£6/7 euro will get you a copy from my house straight to your letterbox, wherever that might be, just hit the Paypal button… now! UK Bike shops can get it through 4Down, any other question you can e-mail:
