Where are you from?
I grew up in Powell River B.C. (Canada), and I am currently living in Victoria B.C. just getting sweet…
How long have you been riding?
I had a bike for a long time but I’m pretty sure I actually started riding, actually trying stuff when I was in like grade 7. So about 10 years, wow haha, I’ve been riding for a long time.
How did you get into it?
Well like I said I had a bike and kind of just cruised around, then in middle school I saw some other kid riding this sweet grass bank jump at school… I started hanging around with those guys and riding bikes. Tyler Pulkrabek was one of those dudes. He still shreds and is one of my good friends still even though I never get to see him, jerk. Thanks for getting me into bmx man.
Why do you ride?
I ride because it’s fun and makes me happy. I enjoy being able to do what I want and not be instructed to do anything, and I like all the friends I have met through riding as well as meeting other people who share the interests I do.
What do you ride?
I enjoy riding street more than anything, but I like skate parks too. I would be stupid to not take advantage of all the sick bmx friendly concrete parks Vancouver Island and Vancouver have to offer. I never really got in to dirt and the trails my friends have are pretty wild to learn on for me anyway. Much respect to the trails guys out there and the work they put in to them.
How’s your local scene?
I would say the scene in Victoria is pretty rad. It’s not huge but everyone is cool and gets along with fellow riders no matter where you’re from. It’s good to be able to go hang out with your friends after you ride instead of just seeing people around at the park. There isn’t a ton of street dudes but hey, that leaves more territory for others.
What’s your most memorable BMX experience to date?
It’s hard to label one as the best, most of the good times I have are bike riding related. But I would probably say my first trip to New York to meet Jimmy Mac and ride out there. It was cool to finally meet him in person after riding for Bulldog for a couple years. And I made the trip there with two good buddies of mine Cody and Taylor. It was so cool to meet all the dudes in NY and see the city from the way they see it on a daily basis instead of from a tourist perspective, and just seeing the different culture compared to B.C. life. Good times riding bikes and making new friends.
What would you like to see more of in BMX?
I would like to see kids be more creative on their bikes and not worry about tricks they think that they should do to fit in. Ride the way you want instead of worrying about stuff. Like it was when I started riding just ride for the fun of it and to escape your daily worries.
What would you like to see less of?
I don’t really know, maybe less judging people by their cover like the clothes they wear or what parts they are riding. You never really know how cool or lame someone is until you actually give them a chance. BMX is already pretty small as it is, we should be less discriminating towards each other.
Do you work or go to school? (what do you do?)
I’m homeless and sell myself for a living. Haha, just joking. I work part time at OneSix, it’s a BMX/Skate shop I ride for here in Vic town. I also do random work with Dave (one of the OneSix owners) if I need extra hours, thanks a lot for all the help and support Dave. And just ride bikes as much as possible.
Any plans for tonight?
It’s wicked rad outside right now so i’m going to ride my bike as soon as I’m done here. Plus I just got 2 new Eclat rims so I’m excited to be rolling smooth again. Other than bikes I will probably just get rad.
Anyone you’d like to thank?
Yeah, there are a few people for sure. Firstly I would like to say thanks to my parents, family, and friends (you all know who you are, too many of you to thank) for all the support and just being there for me. I would also like to thank Brydon Sudds my filmer, and Mike Zinger my photographer for their help, other wise I would not be producing anything. Also, anyone who has helped with that stuff in the past. I would also like to say thanks to my sponsors for all the help and support thus far: Nick and Dave at OneSix for hooking me up over the years and for the employment. Jimmy Mac for the on going support/friendship you have given me with Bulldog over the years, Scott at Ruined Clothing/The levis Store here in Vic for hooking me up and keeping me looking fresh, and Mike Cobbs at Converse shoes for the recent hook up. Thanks guys, I appreciate the help and thanks to anyone who has previously helped me out. And finally thank you Dig for doing this interview with me.
