DIG ARCHIVES: CALEB RUECKER

It may seem strange to some but back as recently as 2004 ‘the Metal Bikes look’ (as it came to be known) wasn’t as commonplace in BMX as it is today. In fact, when we ran this piece in DIG issue 38 on a Portland up and comer by the name of Caleb Ruecker, we were actually accused of making the whole thing up. It was all too much for some to handle for whatever reason. Caleb was (and still is) very much a real rider though and recently Joey Spinoza caught up with him to find out what he’s up to these days… You can see his article from DIG issue 38 here.

How are you?
So good, enjoying my life day by day!

Was it your first piece of magazine coverage?
No, I had a few pictures in RideBMX and BMXPlus before, but this was a big deal for me when it was published.

What do you remember from that article?
Well… I still have sturdy wrists, haha. I remember a couple of my friends writing a few things about my lifestyle, personality and doing it my way!

Did you ever hear the rumour that DIG actually made you up?
I think its rad! I’m stoked to be a made up character! I always wanted to know why though?

What are you up to these days?
Living the life! Working, riding, fishing, living and shooting photos. I might go to school to be a nail tec? I run this gig called Punk Az Fuk Nailz. I’m a fashion whore… haha! Enjoying everyday with my girl Amber with our cats and our wonderful home.

How’s Portland treating you?
I love it! It gets better all the time, shows, sessions, weather and mates.

What are your plans for this year?
Well (The Take) is doing a trip this April and it’s gonna be a blast, other than that I’m going to be working for the bike gallery again! I would like to do more traveling, filming projects…
