What is ARTCRANK?
ARTCRANK showcases bicycle-inspired original poster artwork that you can enjoy looking at and afford to take home.
How did you get involved with ARTCRANK?
Josh Wills the Denver curator asked me to be in the show. The show was originally started 3 years ago in Minneapolis. Denver is the first satellite location.
How did the ARTCRANK show in Denver go last night?
The show went off! There are 4 neighboring retail locations participating in the show, each location was filled to capacity with people lined up outside waiting to get in. All 20 copies of my print were sold.
Were there any other BMX pieces displayed?
A lot of the artwork was themed around fixed-gear bikes. However, there were a couple of pieces that were BMX inspired. 40 Artists were involved in the event and I was impressed by everything I saw there.
What inspired your Drop Sequence piece in the show?
I have been into BMX since I was young, so it just felt right to do a BMX themed print. The idea for my print came from how BMX magazines show a sequence of photos demonstrating a particular trick. I wanted my piece to capture that look and feel in a way.
How long have you been creating prints, and how did you get into it?
I have been creating artwork for about 6 years now. Colorado has a very supportive art community. We have young nationally renown artist’s choosing to live and work here in Colorado. Artist’s like Evan Hecox, Jason Thielke, Ian Millard, Scot Lefavor and Lui Ferreyra have paved the way for artists like myself.
Have you done any other BMX themed pieces?
This one is my first actually. If I’m asked in to be in ARTCRANK next year, I’d love to do another BMX themed print.
Do you live in Denver, and if so, is that crazy skatepark there still slippery as hell?
I do live in Denver and yes, it’s still slippery as hell!
How has the Denver BMX scene been lately?
Honestly, I’m not sure. I wish I was more involved in the BMX scene here in town.
Any plans for future events?
No art events planned just yet, but I’m a founding member of a record label called Plastic Sound Supply. We’re having a record release party coming up on May 8th for the Artist Cacheflowe. It’s sure to get crazy.
