PRODUCT SPEC: ODYSSEY CHAMELEON

“Product Spec:? What is this?”… Have you ever been looking at a companies new product and wondered about some of the details that the description doesn’t answer? It happens pretty frequently, and sometimes there is more to a product behind the scenes that you might never hear about. The first time around with this, we caught up with Nuno and Chris from Odyssey to answer a few questions about U.V pedals and seats they have.

Color changing U.V material isn’t exactly “new technology”. Who had the idea at Odyssey to bring it to your Twitsted PC pedals and seats?
We asked if this was possible, and they provided us with a material sample, which lead to actual product samples. It all really started when Adam Banton started talking to us about Hypercolor shirts from the early 1990′s.

Was there any changes you had to make to the design of the pedals or seats to make it work with this material?
No, the products stayed exactly the same.

From first design to final product. How many prototypes were there to
make sure everything was spot on?

Only one round of samples really, it was surprisingly pretty straight forward.

Did you guys run into any other problems getting it to a finished product?
Not really. We were fortunate to have everything go smoothly with these products.

What exactly is the material that makes them change colors anyways? How does that all work?
It’s a standard grade of plastic with a special component mixed in. This component reacts to UV rays, so when sunlight hits the plastic the material quickly changes color.

Is it similar to the glow in the dark material used in your linear cables?
It’s the same material as the glow in the dark Twisted PC, with a different component mixed in.

Does the U.V fade or wear out after a while at all?
It can eventually fade out a bit overtime. Its longevity depends on the conditions it’s being used in and the intensity of its exposure to direct sunlight.

Do you plan on applying this to any more of Odyssey’s line? Plegs? Can it be used on metals and rubber?
As of right now, it is only the PC pedals and Plastic Pivotal saddles. Although, there are a few more options that we’re looking into.

How long will these be available to purchase? Is it a limited edition thing or no?
We ran these one time, so yes, it is a limited offering. As of now, the extras that we brought in from the original pre-book are all gone from our warehouse.

What do these retail for? Is there a little bit of a price increase due to the cost of the U.V material?
Yeah, there is a slight price difference due to the material and quantities, but nothing crazy. The pedals are roughly 20 bucks and the saddles are 29 bucks.

How has the reaction been from everyone been so far?
I think its pretty much the same reaction across the board, anyone who takes it outside just starts laughing and bugs out. I’ve seen it with my own eyes and I’ve heard that from a bunch of shops too.

Any hints as to what Odyssey’s next new creation might be?
Nothing that I can talk about just yet, sorry.
