RAPID RESPONSE: JIM CIELENCKI

How are you?
I’m actually super good! Just got home from a trip that was so much fun. Went to LA and Woodward West to ride and test out the Sunday cruiser. Hung out with Ian, Kurt and Eric along with everyone at Odyssey. Then went off to Minneapolis and had the best time in 5 degree weather. I was bummed that I didn’t get there a few days earlier to take advantage of that place. I want to head back there this summer! And now its sunny in Buffalo! Couldn’t ask for much more!

What’s new in your life?
I guess leaving the shop to dedicate more time to Sunday Bikes is new. Plus my body is feeling much healthier, so I’m able to ride more. Gave up drinking until my birthday, started doing yoga and working out a bit. You can really feel the difference.

Where are you right now?
Haha! Sitting on my couch when I should be in the office. Once I get going doing work, its hard to just uproot yourself. Don’t really want to stop the work flow because its sort of easy right now. Got a few more things to do then I’ll head over there.

What does your average daily routine consist of these days?
Wake up around 7:30, eat breakfast and feed the cats. Then work at home or at the office till whenever. It depends on the weather or if there is a Sabres game on. I’ll ride before the game or when there isn’t a game, I sort of plan my nights around them. Haha! Then at night its either eat dinner and some sort of entertainment because you need to change the cycle and do something else. I’ll usually do some more work before bed. Then repeat!

Who and what are the Sabres?
Haha! The Sabres are Buffalo’s NHL hockey team. I’m a pretty avid watcher and follower of them. I grew up playing hockey and watching Sabres games, so there’s no reason to stop now. They always seem to have some sort of bad luck happen to them. Whether its a foot in the crease to loose the Stanley Cup, a hole in the net which causes a goal to happen or just the whole defense getting hurt at once during the playoffs. They are just like the city of Buffalo! Bad stuff always prevents them from moving forward. Maybe this year they will have luck on their sides!

Describe Buffalo N.Y. in a sentance?
Buffalo is the drinking town with the (American) football problem!

Is there one question people never ask you but you always wish they did?
Hmmm, not really. I think everyone over the past 10 years has asked me just about every question imaginable. Haha!

Tell us something people might not know about you?
This sounds like that Facebook thing that was going around a few weeks ago. One thing would be that I was way into gymnastics when I was younger. From ages 9-15, I was on the parallel bars, rings and floor exercise along with all the other events. Pummel horse was the worst though. Last week I was at Woodward and traded a tie dyed Sunday hoodie for some gymnastics time. It was really awesome to get on all the apparatuses again even though I didn’t have the muscles or the body type anymore. It was funny cause I wasn’t really afraid of trying much even though I couldn’t do hardly anything. It was probably a combination of age and experience. It was so much fun though!

What does 2009 have in store for you and Sunday Bikes?
Well, 2009 is going to be an awesome year! Soon the video entitled ‘Up, Up and Away’ will drop. Aaron, Karl, Jake and I are heading over to Australia for 9 days to visit some parks, shops and random spots. Sunday’s dirt frame the Model D will be out in April along with the “cruiser” Model C frame. After that we are looking to do a Game of Footdown tour over the summer. The first one should be in the midwest starting at Karl’s shop and heading up towards Minneapolis and Lake Owen. After that Interbike maybe Euro Bike? There’s so much to do, I’m excited for sure!

Any plans for tonight?
Hmm, the Sabres aren’t playing so I’m free to do anything. I’ll probably work on this bookshelf that I’m making from reused tongue and groove boards from a room in my basement. Oh and I’ll log a bunch of footage from last week for a Cali web video. I’m sure something will come up and change this though.
