REVIEW: DUO RESILITE PEDALS

While at the Dew Tour stop in Chicago almost two months back already, I was talking to Will Stroud when he pulled out something new from his bag that I had not seen from DUO; the new Resilite pedals. Will had handed them over to me to take a look at and then told me I could give them a go if I wanted to. I’m a sucker for new things, and it just so happened that they matched my new setup that I had just built up as well. I figured I might as well give them a review while I’m at it…

So let’s break it down first. The Duo Resilite pedals are a nylon composite pedal unlike the polycarbonate “PC” pedals like most companies have these days. These concave designed pedals come with a real grippy pattern and 12 pins on each side of the pedal to keep your feet where you want them. They also have unsealed bearings and a chromoly spindle similar to the other plastic pedals available. The Duo Resilite pedals weigh in at 14.5 oz for the pair and are available in black, blue, purple, red and white. They retail for right around $16 depending on where you are picking them up from.

Alright, as you can see I’ve been running the pedals for a little while now. When I was first putting them on I was a little hesitant about going back to the plastic pins just because I was really liking the JC/PC metal pins. I figured I’d have some issues with slipping and what not like I had in the past with other plastic pedals I ran. Surprisingly enough, they weren’t what I had expected and definitely had plenty of grip to keep my mind off slipping the pedals. Over the course of the past month and a half or so I have had my feet slip off but that will happen with every pedal. If you haven’t ran PC’s yet, you should probably know they can still tear your shin up like metal pedals. I think we all have been there. The picture below left me with a few new scars to add to the collection.

As you can see from the photos, the pedals have got quite a bit of wear on some of the outside pins which came from pedal slides and crank slides when the pedal touched. There’s really no avoiding losing those pins when doing pedal slides with plastic or metal pins so that really was expected. Otherwise, the pins that didn’t get ground down have stayed with little wear. I should mention that even with the missing pins, the pedals still have plenty of grip and I haven’t noticed any extra slip.

Overall, the pedals held up as expected for what an inexpensive PC pedal should. I’m a fan of the knurling all over the pedal to add some extra grip beyond the pins and the general feel of the pedal itself. The nylon “Resilite” material that the pedal is made from is softer than the usual polycarbonate material, which is part of the reason for the added grip. If you are in the market for a new set of PC pedals these are definitely worth checking out.

The Duo Resilite pedals are available everywhere Duo is sold now.
