THE POW SCENE REPORT

Adam Perez hit me up a while ago with a few interviews and a photo gallery of the POW Crew riding Aaron’s Trails in Northern California. Southern California gets a lot of love from the BMX media but it’s more rare to see stuff from NorCal, despite a unique and diverse scene. The boys up from the POW Crew seem to take a little more influence from the Northwest than California, and the video and photos really have the vibe that makes one reminisce back to watching Building the Underground. Without further ado, here is the POW Crew scene report, put together by Adam Perez.

Aaron Day Interview

What got you into riding?
I got a GT Mach 1 at a yard sale for 13 bucks, and my uncle had a friend whose kid raced, so my uncle started to take me to the local track and from there I was hooked.

Who or what was your main inspiration growing up?
Mostly just friends i rode with and still ride with. Just having fun on my bike.

What do you think you would be doing if it were not for BMX?
I honestly couldnt tell you, bmx is such a big part of my life it keeps me going without it i think i would be lost.

What drives you to ride even if you’re having a bad day?
For me riding aways made a bad day better.

Whats the best memory from bmx? What sticks out the most in your mind?
The roadtrip we took cross country and back in Jeremey’s beat up Toyota Corolla with 4 people and the car completely packed. Probably the best time I’ve ever had.

Jeremy Kaiser, superman frame grab.

Jeremey Kaiser Interview

Inspirations: The Four Horsemen keepin’ it real in Jefferson State.

Favorite spots: Big jumps in the woods and swim holes in in the summer.

The best thing about riding: Traveling and friends, drinking beers in the woods, keys and 3′s.

The worst: Being hurt, girls.

Your most memorable BMX experience: Last winter in Austin. Eastside and everyone there was awesome.

Five years from now: Somewhere riding trails I hope. There are some more places on the map I want to go.

Thanks: POW!, The Horsemen, all my friends that ride and help build the scene, create & destroy, Aaron at Solid, bikes, mother nature and garden tools.

Jeremy, no footed can can.

Jeremey, extended nothing.

Abe Rowland, getting sideways through the treetops.

What got you into riding?
Started jumping my bike when I was 4. Never even knew a thing about BMX at the time, but I was psyched. Some info I don’t think many people know, but I broke 2 frames when I was 4, they were those old school Walmart bikes from the 92 era, I remember my dad had to keep welding them at the bottom bracket.

What or who was your main inspiration growing up?
When I started racing in 5th grade I would always watch Crank which turned into Pump. But I would record every episode on VHS and just watch it over and over. I remember in winter when the show was airing as it was getting dark and I could never decide if i wanted to watch it or ride at the moment, even though I had it recording. Got a lot of inspiration from that show.

What do you think you would be doing if it wasn’t for BMX?
Without BMX I would definitely have been a jock, probably playing football. I would have went to college and gotten one of those 9-5′s sitting behind a desk eating donuts all day.

What drives you to ride even if you’re having a bad day?
Anytime with the boys out in the woods digging or riding is always good. Everytime we hook up with the NWC at any set of trails is a always guaranteed good time that I cant even start to explain with words, it’s the best feeling.

What’s the best memory from BMX? What sticks out the most in your mind?
The crew and the King of Beers usually gets me psyched even if I’m having a bad day, also seeing someone take the first run usually clears the thoughts and gets me going.

Abe, proper 360 table.
