There has been quite a bit of talk of the new Vinyl DVD that is in the works right now. It was time to catch up with the man behind the camera of this project. Tom lets us in on a little more information about the DVD, check it out.
Name:
Tom Arkus

Location:
Pittsburgh, PA
Years filming and editing:
I picked up a camera about 6 years ago. I haven’t put it down ever since. I’ve been editing just as long as filming.
You are the man in charge of the new Vinyl DVD that is in the works. How long has this project been in the works so far? Is there a projected release date or deadline?
The new dvd project has been in the works for 6 months now. I’m not planning any release date’s till the dvd master is in my hands. I really want to take my time with this one. Since dvd’s are going extinct might as well make it count. I want to produce a video that kids will feel like they got their moneys worth. It will have tons of bonus stuff, which will be a video of its own. You can expect more details toward the end of 2009 but it will come out sometime in 2010.
What is your camera, lenses, and editing set-up looking like for this project? Are there any other people helping with the filming and editing?
For this video I will be using a Sony HVR-V1 with a 16x9inc wide angle 0.7X, and I will also be using a super 8 movie camera. It’s going to be in a all HD with some super 8 film. I have a filmer in Chicago, since many of the crew members are residents in Chi-town. The majority of the filming will be done by me, with the help of some friends from all over the world. The editing will most likely be done by Andrew Brady and I. I have a full Apple set up (Desktop Tower with 5BG Memory, Quad Dual Core Processor, 1TB , Apple Cinema Hd 24 screen, with FCP, Adobe Suit 4) all the things you need to make a dope video.
Who all will have parts in the video? Is it going to be strictly the Vinyl crew?
So far this is the line up is:
Brian Yeagle
Chase Zink
My self (Tom Arkus)
Lil Jon
Jason Tyrawa
Javier Ortega
Kevin Porter
Brandan Pundai
Ryan Melia
Chris Doyle
Mark Potoczny
Friends, and Trail section
Some will have split parts and some will have full parts.

Have you guys had the chance to do much traveling for the project? Are there any more trips in the works as we speak?
I’ve had the chance to do a few trips this winter. I went to ATX for a week, but it’s impossible to film there. Everything is really blown out film wise. Then I went to Phoenix, AZ clocked some good stuff. Last summer I did some Trail Trips on the east coast. I am hoping to do even more this year. I want to have a very wide variety of trails, and concrete parks. Pittsburgh is pretty much untapped filming wise. I’m hoping to fit some time in the Rocky Mountains ride some tranny out that way.
What are some of the problems you have run into so far working on this project?
Money, time, injuries, schedule’s, building new set of trails, work, thats about it…
What do you feel will make this video stand out from the other videos available?
Quality is my main goal, the first video was thrown together in two weeks. This time I want to really take my time with filming nice clips, and dialing out the colors. HiDef is amazing, you can’t make a crappy video with HD that just doesn’t fly. Riding will be different that’s for sure. It wont be your every day trendy street video. There will be a lot of trails and concrete riding.
Where will people be able to pick up the video when it is available?
You will be able to find it world wide.
USA: It will be available at Danscomp, Empire, and our online store
International: Cromoly, Triple Six, Seventies and others.
Anything else you can tell us about the video or you want to say?
We are just looking to inspire kids to make good videos for the web or dvds. Get people psyched on trails, and other types of riding. Enjoy your moments with your friends, document everything so you can look back 5 years from now and laugh with you bros.
Below are two screen shots from the video.
